This month’s Meet the Member features Borealis Immigration Law, a new virtual law firm serving the Sea to Sky Corridor. Borealis Law strives to help people, entrepreneurs and Canadian employers find the best route for their success in Canada. Borealis Law is owned by Enrico Peraga, an Immigration Lawyer. Since moving to Canada, Enrico has accumulated numerous years of experience helping people from around the world come to Canada to work, study, visit, rejoin family members, and launch businesses. As an immigrant himself, he is personally aware of all the challenges, doubts and excitement that moving to a new country involves.
Why Pemberton, Enrico?
After spending many years in Vancouver and Northern BC, my family and I chose Pemberton as our home because of its mountain town vibe and its proximity to the Lower Mainland. Few places in the world can match the nature of the Sea-to-Sky and the advantages of the nearby city.
Why did you decide to be a business owner and start Borealis Immigration Law?
After numerous years of work experience in the field as an employee and as an articled student, I felt I had gained the necessary knowledge and experience to run my own law firm. Responsibilities and independence have always been a reward in my professional life.
What is the biggest challenge to operating your business?
The biggest challenge I face running my business is wearing all of the ‘hats’. I don’t just manage my professional work, but also manage all of the administrative and marketing tasks related to the business. Juggling both of these aspects to the business requires me to be constantly learning in my legal profession, as well as learning how to complete administrative tasks I need to complete as a business owner.
What is the greatest reward?
As an immigrant from a civil law country, I have been able to become one of the few lawyers in British Columbia with experience and education in both common law and civil law countries. The opportunity to share this knowledge and experience to help people locally excites me.
What would you like people to know about Borealis Immigration?
My practice guarantees the knowledge in immigration law gained in about a decade of experience combined with the flexibility and adaptability that new technologies offer. I have developed a system of forms and communication that clients can use anywhere in the world and at any time. In addition to foreign nationals, I can also assist Pemberton based businesses with strategies to hire foreign workers in order to help ease the shortage of workers our area is experiencing.
